Hearts in the Ice, a project about climate change

Hearts In The Ice is an inspiring and impactful initiative co-founded by Hilde Fålun Strøm in 2019.

The project is dedicated to raising awareness about the climate crisis, focusing particularly on the melting ice caps and the environmental changes happening in the Arctic region.

Inspiring Global Action for Arctic Conservation

The project not only sheds light on the physical changes to the landscape but also seeks to promote a message of resilience, hope, and the importance of global environmental stewardship.

Through their expeditions, Hilde and her team have worked to inspire individuals and communities worldwide to take action in protecting the planet, especially the vulnerable ecosystems of the Arctic.

19 Months at Bamsebu

The most significant project under Hearts In The Ice was the incredible 19-month expedition spent at Bamsebu, a remote cabin located in the Arctic wilderness of Svalbard.

This project, which began in 2019, saw Hilde Fålun Strøm and her expedition partner Sunniva Sorby live in complete isolation in this harsh and pristine environment, documenting firsthand the profound changes occurring in the Arctic due to climate change.

Reaching out to thousands of young students

Throughout their 19 months of isolation at Bamsebu in Svalbard, Hilde and Sunniva regularly communicated with students through live video calls, educational content, and social media platforms.

They offered an authentic, real-time glimpse into life in the Arctic, sharing both the beauty and fragility of the environment. These interactions allowed students to ask questions, learn directly from their experiences, and become more engaged in the realities of climate change.

By connecting with thousands of young minds across the world, Hearts In The Ice created a ripple effect, planting the seeds for future environmental leaders and inspiring a generation to take on the challenge of preserving our planet.

The project has shown that even in the remote corners of the Earth, technology and storytelling can bring people together to learn, act, and advocate for a more sustainable future.

Extraordinary Encounters and Historic Data

100,000 Children: Through this project, Hilde has directly engaged with over 100,000 children, sharing her unique experiences from the Arctic and inspiring the next generation of climate advocates.

Over 100 Polar Bear Encounters: In the face of nature’s most powerful creatures, Hilde and her team have gathered crucial data on polar bear behavior, helping to understand the impact of climate change on Arctic wildlife.

Wide Scientific Collaboration: The project has contributed vital scientific data to several high-profile research efforts, playing a key role in studying the effects of climate change on polar regions.
