Tales from the north

Bringing Public Awareness

The conversation about climate change is no longer confined to scientific circles—it’s a global dialogue that is now happening.

By sharing the realities of the rapidly changing Arctic, Hilde sparks meaningful discussions and inspires action, empowering individuals to understand the bigger picture on climate change and life in the arctics - which affects life on the planet as a whole.

Arctic Advocate

For Hilde, being a citizen scientist is about more than collecting data—it's about learning from the Arctic and sharing those insights to raise awareness. Working with passionate scientists, she’s grateful to contribute to efforts to protect this vulnerable region.

Life-Changing Event

"The Avalanche That Changed The City"

Early on, Hilde witnessed the frightening impacts of climate change. In 2015, an avalanche struck Longyearbyen on Svalbard, destroying 12 houses and burying 17 of her neighbors. Hilde and her husband joined the rescue effort, where she cared for a mother searching for her young children.

After two hours, they found them, but tragically, the two-year-old didn’t survive. Hilde stayed with the family for three days, an experience that changed her forever.

With climate change now increasing the risk of avalanches, she knew she had to be part of the solution—not just part of the problem.
